Street Dogs Help League - LAPC

I want to share something with you.

My friend, Esteban Vargas Romero is a music teacher in an academy in Peru. He always had a deep love for animals; now together with his students they share the same passion.

Since few months ago, they take affection for a special homeless dog they called “Chicle” which unfortunately has cancer and it´s threatening his life and some others dog, they started to feed them to avoid they starve or eat garbage from streets.

Out there are many dogs in the same situation of Chicle because the people keep dropping out their pets to the streets when they get sick, pregnant or grow up to much and unlike other places there is no animal’s organization in Peru where they can take them.

Their work with these dogs makes them realize that the problem is much deeper than they thought.

SAVING CHICLE AND HIS BUDDIES 

Esteban: "The veterinarian told us that if we wait too long to operate Chicle´s, his cancer will get worse, it will spread all over his body, and needs urgent surgery.

If the campaign succeeds we will take Chicle to surgery (it has a big cost here :S), take care of the postmedical expenses and rehabilitation. The great news are that one of my closest students is willing to adopting Chicle after the surgery, accompanying him on his recovery, giving him all the love Chicle needs.
Chicle’s buddies need to be taken off the streets, be fed and many of them need medical treatment, we will give all of them the required help."

It is a dramatic situation that Chicle, his buddies and all abandoned dogs are going through because there is no one to take care of them. This had a huge impact on their lives, so they decided to take action by themrselves, creating a permanent solution so this never happens again.

To make this possible they will create the “Street´s Dogs Help League (Liga de Ayuda a Perros Callejeros-LAPC)”, hoping it will be a relief for all those who love and care about animals. Watch out the LAPC video clip:

LAPC will carry out the following activities to help the abandoned dogs in this city and nearby cities: 

• Find the abandoned dogs 
•  Take them off the streets no matter the condition they are. 
• Give them medical treatment
• Give them food and hygiene
• Find loving and caring families willing to adopt them.
• They also want to hire a full-time veterinarian to be part of the team and hope to have their own place where the dogs can live until we found them new families!

Dogs Thought Process: What Does Your Dog Think?

Thinking Dogs way is not always the solution to understand what your dog thinks!

Here's an amazing information about a dog project, that was lead by Gregory Berns. Berns spared thoughts on this project not until May, 2011,when the US Navy dogs had been employed to work with SEAL to kill Osama Bin Laden. Berns said, "I was amazed when I saw the pictures of what military dogs can do. I realized that if dogs can be trained to jump out of helicopters and airplanes, we could certainly train them to go into an fMRI to see what they're thinking."

What does Rex think when he gazes at your eyes? I am sure you have tried to figure out his feelings and get an idea of what's going on in his mind. it is important to think dogs way in order to explore Rex's thought process. The researchers at the Emory University have come up with a scientific method to get an idea of what is a dog thinking when he seems to be thinking something - means when he alert or gazing at something. The method involves using harmless functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which is used to study the functionality of human brains. The findings of the first experimentation with the dog's thought process was published by The Public Library of Science (PLoS ONE), explaining how actually a dog's brain functions.

 The director of the Emory Center for Neuropolicy and lead researcher of the dog project, Gregory Berns said, "it was amazing to see the first brain images of a fully awake, unrestrained dog. As far as we know, no one has been able to do this previously. We hope this opens up a whole new door for understanding canine cognition and inter-species communication. We want to understand the dog-human relationship, from the dog's perspective." The aim of the research was to decode the thought process of canines. This was done by recording the specific areas of the dogs' brains that were activated by various stimuli.

The credit all goes to two key persons - Andrew Brooks (a graduate at the Center for Neuropolicy) and Mark Spivak - a professional dog trainer. the major participants were the two dogs: Callie - a 2-year-old southern squirrel-hunting dog and McKenzie - a 3-year-old Border Collie. While Berns (neuroeconomist, who uses fMRI technology to study functionality of human mind) had adopted Callie when she was 9 months old from a dog shelter, McKenzie was already owned by Melissa Cate, and was already trained for agility tests.

Callie and McKenzie were both trained for several months to walk into the scanner and stay there still for the researchers to measure the neural activities of their brains. While doing fMRI of Callie's and Mckenzie's brains the researchers were trying to figure out whether dogs have empathy, and if they could understand their owners' emotions - happiness, sadness and anger. In this experiment with dogs mind the dogs were trained to follow and respond to two non-verbal signals (hand movements), where one sign indicated that the dogs would get their favorite treat, the other indicated that they wouldn't be receiving any! Interestingly, the Caudate region of the dogs' brain that is associated with receiving rewards for humans was found activated for both Callie and MacKenzie.

Bern said, "these results indicate that dogs pay very close attention to human signals, and these signals may have a direct line to the dog's reward system." He also said, "the dog's brain represents something special about how humans and animals came together. It's possible that dogs have even affected human evolution. People who took dogs into their homes and villages may have had certain advantages. As much as we made dogs, I think dogs probably made some part of us, too."

Diamond studded dog collar stolen from grave of Tipsy - The Poodle

Incedence of robberies in the pet cemeteries have seldom happened, the pet cemeteries have hardly attracted burglars and robbers. The cops in France are investigating on the burglaries that took place in the world's oldest pet cemetery in Asnières-sur-Seine - a commune in the northwestern suburbs of Paris. The thieves have stolen a diamond studded dog collar from the grave of Tipsy - a Poodle, who had been buried in a marble tomb in the year 2003. Investigations showed that Tipsy was owned by te wife of a wealthy American industrialist. 

There have been a rumor spread wide that Tipsy's wealthy owners had buried her with the treasure, while this was never confirmed and published anywhere. On February 16, 2012, the police informed AFP news agency that when the grave was desecrated in the early February, 2012 the collar that worth around 9,000 euros (£7,500: $12,000), was found stolen. According to them the grave in that cemetery had been vandalized on the night of February 4, 2012. The tombstone as found pulled down and Tipsy's skeleton was found scattered over the ground. During the investigation process, the site had been surrounded by yellow police tape and the cemetery was closed for the repair work.

The mayor of Asnieres, Sebastien Pietrasanta, said he was astonished the jewels had been buried with Tipsy, AFP reports. But he stressed: "Treasure is not hidden in the tombs of all the dogs and cats."

The cemetery, which is recognized as the the world's oldest pet cemetery, located in Asnières-sur-Seine, has housed the remains of around 3,000 pets, mostly cats and dogs. It was set up in 1899 when a new law required pets to be buried 100m from homes and with at least a meter of soil covering the body. Most interestingly, Rin Tin Tin, the famous German Shepherd movie celebrity, who starred in more than super-hit 20 Hollywood films, was buried in this grave.

Kennel Club Accredited Airedale Terriers Breeders Faced Prosecution on Animal Cruelty

A couple of award winning dog breeders have faced prosecution after they had loaded 12 pedigree dogs into a removals van to be removed to a 30C hot zone around 200 miles away. Alan and Julie Weatherley (couple who are both Kennel Club accredited Airedale breeders since July 2009), one of whose dogs had been placed in the most reputed Crufts show in the year 2005, were in the process of relocating from London to Doncaster. They had been checked by the cops and the officers found beautiful Airedale Terriers caged and piled inhumanly in the high temperatures with almost no proper ventilation. They dogs had been stacked with the furniture and other articles which proved that they considered the dogs as commodities. The couples had been prosecuted for animal cruelty.

The complaint were launched against Weatherley by their neighbor that one of the captivated dogs had fallen down from the the wagon into the road. With the day temperatures on the rise - around 28.8c, they were not allowed to take the dogs with them. 12 Airedale Terrier dogs had been unloaded by the cops and were temporarily rehoused them in a resident nearby which can cost the Weatherley couple up to £1,000 for each dog.

"The animals have been removed from a potentially dangerous vehicle and we will now investigate," said Inspector Colin Baker of Sutton Police. A policeman present on the spot said that the removals lorry had "little or no ventilation". He also added that he had been told that the couple planned to give halt at every half an hour interval during their journey to walk and water their dogs. A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "Any dog owner needs to ensure that their dogs are transported in comfortable and safe conditions, and this means that they must be kept cool and not be too cramped. If it can be proven that dogs were caused suffering then owners can be prosecuted." According to The Kennel Club Accreditation Schemes, the dog breeders are given accreditation only after they make commitment of good breeding practice. The Kennel Club remains really concerned about how people move their dogs, while relocating. A spokesman for the Kennel Club said "it is imperative that people have adequate transport arrangements for their dogs in hot weather, which includes access to water and proper ventilation and this is included amongst the extensive guidelines in the scheme. We have the power to discipline or remove breeders from the scheme, as appropriate, if their standards are found wanting. To date 212 have been removed which demonstrates our commitment to upholding the standards of the scheme. No complaint has been made against the breeders in question since they joined the scheme in 2009 but we are in contact with the relevant authorities about this incident and will act accordingly."

On the other level, a police spokesman said that the they had been called following reports of several dogs being loaded into a removal van that had very little ventilation system. The police said that the dogs were removed from the vehicle and housed temporarily in a safe place. One furious neighbor who launched the complaint against the Weatherleys for animal cruelty said, "we couldn't believe how many dogs were in the van especially given that it was almost 30 degrees today. The dogs have such thick coats and looked really hot - as the police opened up the vans the crates seemed to fall out as they were so badly stacked. Most of the residents on this street are completely incensed about this."

Paris Hilton - Paris Whitney Hilton, who have always been known as an American socialite, heiress, media personality, model, singer, author, fashion designer and actress, has opened up a new horizon of her character. Did you know, she is an avid dog lover too?

Yes, Paris Hilton is a dog lover, and her love for dog has led her adopt a new dog. According to contactmusic.com's report, Paris gave home to a three-year-old Chihuahua. Hilton's Twitter message on the The Animal Foundation Page, read as: "Paris Hilton helps shelter animals... adopts three-year-old female Chihuahua from Vegas." Hilton - now known to a great animal lover too has adopted the three-year-old Chihuahua which she picked up from The Animal Foundation shelter in Las Vegas on Wednesday (15.12.10).

In an entry The Animal Foundation of Las Vegas posted a picture that shows Paris collecting the pooch after he had been neutered - which involves either removing a male animal's testicles or being sterilised so it can't reproduce - and thanked her for taking in a dog.

The 29-year-old blonde beauty - Paris Hilton has also urged her fans to adopt a pet rather than buy a puppy or kitten, which truly reflects her angelic magnanimity. "This Chirstmas if you're thinking of getting a dog or cat, get one at your local animal shelter. Save a Life. Don't Shop, Adopt," she tweeted.

Hilton’s new canine pal is going to join her menagerie of other animals including a few more dogs, a hamster and a miniature pig.

Law suit against Winston - the Shar Pei : Wrinkle Dog

Tid bits on Chinese Shar Pei - The Wrinkle Dog, and Law suit against Winston the Shar Pei

The Chinese Shar Pei also called just "Shar Pei" is a medium large dog with growing popularity all over the world. The name "Shar-Pei" means "sandy coat". The Wrinkles almost all though its body, square profile with a heavily wrinkled broad and flat head, wide muzzle, dark almond eyes and blue tongue (like Chow chow) have given it a typically unique look and set the dog apart from other dog breeds. Their very small high set triangular ears with moderately rounded tip is also typical of the breed. Interestingly another special thing about Shar pei is his finely pointed and extremely high set thick tail with a tapered base. Another interesting fact about Shar Pei is its uncertain origin. The ancestry of the Shar-Pei is not know clearly. Evidences in the pictures on pottery suggest that the breed had existed even as far back as 206 BC, which make us conclude that Shar pei is one of the oldest known dog breeds in the world. Owing to the similarity in the color of tongue (blue or purple) in shar Pei and Chow Chow, it may be concluded that Shar Pei is a descendant of the Chow Chow.

Again most important as well as interesting fact about shar Pei is his heavily wrinkled skin. What once most dog breeders, owners and newbie knew about Shar pei has been proved to be wrong. Yes,the wrinkles in Shar Pei is a genetic or hereditary disorder, which most of the learned and responsible Shar Pei breeders are keeping in
forefront of their minds while breeding their dogs. Selective breeding is hereby necessary and we have noticed that wrinkles in shar pei are gradually decreasing... this is undoubtedly a developmental process in the breed.

Researchers at "Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona" - UAB have come up with the mystery about heavy Wrinkles of Shar Pei dogs revealed! The scientists discovered the origin of dermal mucinosis (broad clinical and histologic category of diseases) that is present in the breed and haas been genetically passed no to the progenitors from dams and sires on breeding. This is a hereditary health disorder, which is responsible for the characteristic wrinkles in Shar Pei, according to the scientists

Lluís Ferrer, Maria José Docampo, Giordana Zanna, Anna Bassols and Dolors Fondevila from the UAB, Department of Animal Medicine and Surgery, and the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. A report of this discovery on the mystery of Shar Pei wrinkles was published in the journals Veterinary Dermatology and Journal of Heredity.

So this was something that most people have been wondering about. Let us now delve deeper into Shar Pei temperament and character trait.

Very recently a lawsuit has been filed against a Shar Pei named "Winston" at Tenafly court, where the Municipal Court judge had to make decision on whether a Shar Pei — a dog whose Birchwood Place neighbors claim "terrorizes the neighborhood" — is vicious, potentially dangerous or neither, after an attack on a 10-pound toy poodle named Ricky on Oct. 30, 2010, sadly resulting to death of the victim. Frankel, the owner of the toy poodle (Ricky) said while he was cleaning up leaves on his yard, the Shar-Pei "came bolting out of nowhere and attacked my dog." Frankel said that he was able to separate the dogs and could pick up his dog Ricky to protect it, but the Shar Pei somehow squirmed out of his hands attacked again. He separated the two dogs the second time as well and secured the leash of the Shar-Pei while the poodle sought protection underneath a parked car.

Gina A. Calogero, the attorney representing Thomas Frankel said that if Winston - the Shar Pei is declared vicious by the courts, the dog could be humanely destroyed.
If the dog is considered as potentially dangerous, then his owner owner Domini Sheets would have to take necessary precautionary measures to protect the public including muzzling the dog and posting warning signs at her home. Now most of us have a question. What does these terms ("Viciousness" and "potentially dangerous") mean according to law and how according to the Law these characters are different? Why should a dog be killed ("humanely destroyed") if at all he is proved to be vicious? Is this a solution? The Municipal Court Judge Allen M. Bell adjourned the case until January 19, 2010. Hope the next hearing would determine the Shar Pei Winston to be potentially dangerous and NOT Vicious.

This issue has stigmatized the breed in general. It is an appeal not to consider Shar Pei as a dangerous breed, just because Winston has attacked Ricky to death. It is important to know what went wrong in Winston's mind at that point of time when he attacked Ricky. Winston has been impounded at the county’s animal shelter in Teterboro following the Oct. 30, 2010 attack on Ricky - the toy poodle. Impounding Winston is nothing but a mental torture on the dog, and he should be released immediately and returned to Sheet, his owner. It is to remember that winston is not human and cannot realize why he has been kept away from his owner. Hence impounding him is again an unwise act on part of the legal officers. Ricky's death is undoubtedly a shocking issue, but impounding Winston and "humanely destroyed" him cannot mitigate Frankel's pain. I think Winston is the SIN; Sheets is the SINNER. If anybody should be sued, its not the dog but his owner for being so irresponsible towards her pet. Sheets should be held responsible for not putting Winston to proper training session and for her incapability of handling a pet safely. Such attacks are dangerous for both, the one who attacks and for the one who is attacked.

Here's the character traits of Shar Pei

Temperament

Shar Pei is a very loyal breed. He is quite intelligent. In fact more intelligent than many other dog breeds. He is very active, playful, brave and dominant. His dominant nature sometimes drives his attack instincts, which should be kept controlled through proper training and good amount of exercise. The Shar-Pei, being dominant, requires confident handlers and owners. If you too mild and soft by nature, in the dog's eyes, your Shar Pei will try to take over as the alfa member, which will break the pack balance. They are not always unfriendly to the strangers. The Shar-Pei is easy-going, independent and a clam breed, and devoted towards his pack members. They are good watchdogs. Due to its dominant nature Shar Pei cannot be easily mixed with other breeds of milder characters. It is the owners' responsibility to socialize their Shar Pei to the proper degree.

Winston has turned out to be a victim of his own dominating nature. May be unplanned breeding program of Winston's breeder has resulted progenitors like Winston. It is not necessary that Winston's siblings will be of same nature, but chances are there that Winston's attacking tendency is a breeding fault. Impounding Winston and humanely destroying him will be an unwise act. Please think twice... and thrice.

One more thing... Frankel said Wednesday he was relieved the dog remained impounded and was not in the neighborhood. Frankel, being a dog lover you cannot say that. Impounding Winston is a torture towards him. I can feel your pain of loosing your kid Ricky, but still you cannot be revealed for torturing Winston. He is not a human, he is the sin not the sinner.

AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days

Hey this is September 2010 and as usual AKC is going to host its flagship event with te noble motive to support the Responsible Dog Ownership.

Well its never too late too late or too early to kick start your planning session for an exciting "AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Days", 2010.This years - i.e. in 2010the event marks its 8th year of celebration. AKC moves a step ahead to encouraging all the AKC affiliated clubs and canine organizations to hold a community event publicly with a view to promote "responsible dog ownership" anytime during September.

American Kennel Club has announced that it is going to host its flagship event in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, September 25, 2010. This will aim at highlighting the organizations programs and servives to support the responsible dog ownership. The club has flashed out the news of the 8th year celebration of Responsible Dog ownership, thereby publicizing to news channels and the dog lover communities across the country. AKC wants all the dog lovers and dog lover organizations to participate in the event.

Glowing Dogs - World's First Transgenic Dogs Carrying Fluorescent Genes

Glowing Puppies Created! The accomplishment was published on the web site of the journal "Genesis."

A group of researchers at South Korea claims that they have a couple of beagles with an implanted fluorescent gene. Some of the researchers thinks that the technique could be applied to treat certain human diseases. The scientists of South Korea have been burning their midnight oil and have engineered several beagles that glow with a red tint. They said they did this by using a cloning techniques that may helps scientists ion detecting and studying human diseases in future. The first born was a dog called "Ruppy" - the name given in the combination of "Ruby" and "Puppy" and her siblings look almost exactly like beagles under the normal light. But interestingly when Ruby's siblings are viewed under Ultraviolet light, they glow red. The nails of the dogs and their abdomens look red when viewed in naked eye under Ultraviolet light. According to the team lead of the project, Ruby's siblings are the "world's first transgenic dogs carrying fluorescent genes".

The Korean professor Lee Byeong-chun, Seoul National University said: "We have succeeded in cloning dogs with gene transformation by inserting a special gene in the cell. Even though we inserted a transgenic gene in them, if we insert a human disease related gene, we can use them as a great model to study diseases." Lee told the Associated Press that what actually is important is not just that the dogs displays red tint. What is more important is that they have succeeded to plant genes in the dogs. Professor Lee also said the scientists in the U.S., Japan and Europe that his team had already cloned fluorescent mice and pigs, but this time it's different. These are actually the World's first transgenic dogs carrying fluorescent genes. Never before this that dogs with modified genes have been successfully cloned, although Snuppy the Afghan Hound was the WORLD'S FIRST CLONED DOG, but he's not carrying fluorescent genes

A cloned beagle that glows could help researchers to model human disease, but the process could be too expensive to continue. Ruppy's puppys. The ones on the ends have the RFP gene, while the one in the centre does not. Ruppy was bred to a non-transgenic dog, and fluroescent puppies were born in the expected Mendelian ratio

The Associate Press said that several female beagles were born in December 2007 through cloning with fluorescent gene. It is actually a red fluorescent protein that makes them glow red when seen under UV light. The glowing dogs project has opened up a new horizon in the world of medicine, showing that it is possible to successfully insert fluorescent genes into an egg cell too. Professor Lee said that it could lead to implanting other, non-fluorescent genes and amazingly, that could help researchers study specific diseases like Parkinsons.

Unrecognized Labradoodle Dog Breed Spotlighted: Obama Dog Issue

Well, I think Malia hasn't stopped disturbing her dad about getting a puppy! Despite the Peru Government showed eagerness to giftPresident Obama a beautiful hypoallergenic dog breed, he didn't responded positively to that. Probably because it was completely a hairless dog that he might not have liked, but EARS, the Peruvian Hairless Dog was an amazing specimen!

Obama's hunt for the First Dog have been breeding confusion since the first day! Even Obama seems to have been gripped in dilema regarding the President Dog. But with the president-elect Barack Obama narrowing his selection of a dog for Malia and Sasha, things are going to be solved soon... I think. Better late than never! On January 12, 2009 Obama told George Stephanopoulos, the ABC’s host that his daughters Malia and Sasha will make the selection very soon. He said publicly, “We’re now going to start looking at shelters to see when one of those dogs might come up”.

Now the question is what these Portuguese Water Dog or Labradoodle actually are?

Well for sure, I can say that these breeds are not as common as Joe Biden’s new puppy, which is a pure bred German Shepherd Dog and George Bush's "Barney", which is a pure-bred Scottish-Terrier.
Labradoodle is easily understandable to be a mixed breed, crossed between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. Candidly speaking, I have never chanced to see a Labradoodle in my life, but have recently came across an article about the Obama Dog, which mentions a name of a proud owner of a labradoodle. Mr. Philip Crammond, who owns a labradoodle defines his dog in 5 simple words: “state of the art canine”!Although not yet been recognized by any major Kennel Club, yet certain handful of sources have talked about the Labradoodle. History spans back to 1989, when Wally Conron, a breeder from Australia deliberately bred Labradoodle, by crossing a Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle to be used as Guide Dogs for Guide Dog Victoria. Conron focused on producing a unique canine companion to be used as Guide Dog for people with allergies to dandruff and shadding coat. He selected Poodle for they shedding less and a Labrador for they are gentle and easily trainable. Till today the Guide Dog Victoria have been breeding Labradoodles and the progenies are trained to be used as Guide dogs, Assistant dogs, and Therapy Dogs in many countries. They haven't earned popularity as family pets like the pure-bred dogs, even though they can make amazing family pets.

I think, one major reason for not yet been recognized by any major kennel club as a specific breed might be due to the fact that Labradoodle don't show a consistently predictable nature. Although most of the Labradoodles show the desired traits, in their behavior and appearence, yet from an overall breed perspective, this breed is quite unpredictable, which makes it impossible to draw a fixed breed standard for it. Hence, we can't call it a pure breed, but a mutt. For instance, Labradoodles' coat can vary widely, ranging between soft and smooth to typically wiry. It can be straight, wavy, or even curly. Although most of the Labradoodles do not shed or shed less, but some do shed moderately. Although most of the Labradoodles do not have doggy odor, but some do have. Colors may vary to a great extent starting from white, creamy white and faint gold to rich gold, apricot, red, brown and even black. Alike their roots of origin (Labrador Retriever and Poodle), Labradoodles generally show docile nature, comprised of friendliness, energetic and good with kids.

Barack Obama might have to go for swim each fine morning with his dog instead of just a walk, whether he chooses a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Dog!

Labradoodles often display moderate affinity towards water, which is a trait that is genetically transformed from both Labradors and Poodles. Portuguese Water Dog is definite to show highly strong affinity towards water.

Obama Dog Issue - Obama Confused With US President Dog 2008

Hey... here's an updated news about adopting a dog by Obama. Many didn't know about the President's promise of getting Melia and Sasha a dog until the news created a sensational buzz across the web. I am sure some of my readers were also unware of the fact until they dropped by this blog. Well, now I am going to come up with something more interesting! A record shows that there have been an incredible number of around over 42,000 people who got involved in making a decision – as important as, what breed of dog should the US President, Mr. Barack Obama choose for his daughters.

Interesting, the American Kennel Club (AKC) launched an online poll for the President in order to get the views of the general mass on what canine breed should Obama pick. Over 42,000 people have cast their vote over the summerlong seven weeks campaign on Obama's dog breed. And Guess What???? The campaign result was fully against adopting a goldendoodle. Instead Poodle clinched the nomination by winning over the top two contenders by some hundreds of votes. The other names that were also nominated were Miniature Schnauzer, Bichon Frise and Chinese Crested Hairless Dog, because of their non-shading nature... so-called hypoallergenic coat, friendly nature and moderate energy level.

American Kennel Club (AKC) has promised the President to give every assistance to Obama family regarding the acquiring and upkeeping the puppy. That's a great news indeed, but Obama hasn't reacted over the outcome of AKC's poll. He is free to pick whatever he wants. Very recently Michelle Obama told “Entertainment Tonight” that the Obama family is going to adopt a rescue dog instead of a purebred dog from any breeder. Interestingly, The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has sent out a letter to the President stating that adopting a purebred dog would be elitist. The Best Friends Animal Society said that they have accumulated over 50,000 signatures to persuad the US president to adopt a dog instead of having one bred or purchased from a breeder engaged in breeding purebred dogs.

Obama said smiling: "Obviously, a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me." "So whether we're going to be able to balance those two things, I think, is a pressing issue on the Obama household," he added. But the confusion is on rise regarding US president dog 2008.

A hunt For Obama Daughters' Hypoallergenic Dog Breed

Barack Obama's winning of the presidential election has created a buzz in the dog world too. Immediately after he won the election, he expressed his love to have a dog for his beloved daughters. That was really a graet news for us, dog lovers. Personally, I feel more happy, the more I find dog lovers' population increasing!

A grand welcome to Obama to our world of dogs.

Dogs have always been a good company for almost all US presidents, and Obama doesn’t want to make any difference during his term too. But one certain barrier for one of his two daughters, ten-year-old Malia, in adopting a dog was the allergy, although she wanted a Goldendoodle - a mixed breed of Golden retriever and poodle. Malia is not alone. This has always been a case that stopped many dog lovers to become dog owners. Malia loves dog but she can't stay along with most of the furry breeds. Any breed that Obama would like to get for his daughters Melia and Sasha would have to be hypoallergenic. Let me not hide and seek... candidly speaking, no dog is actually hypoallergenic. Non-shading breeds would suit best for her.

Breeds like Chinese Crested Dog (not the Powderpuff version, but the Hairless one), Poodles, Bichon frise, Westies (West Highland White Terriers), Portuguese water dogs, Scottish terriers would be amongst the right picks for Melia. But before we dog lovers could suggest a breed for Melia, Peru offered the new US president a dog that is native to South America. It's a Peruvian Hairless Dog and his name is "EARS". No other breed could be better than what Peru has because this breed doesn't have a single hair to shed. Claudia Galvez, the head of the "Peru’s Friends of the Hairless Dog Association", said that Peruvian Hairless Dog is perfect for Obama and his family as it doesn’t have any hair to shed. According to Ms Galvez, Peruvian Hairless Dog doesn't cause any sort of allergies. She stated: "They do not cause any type of allergy and are very friendly and sweet. We want to give a male puppy to Obama’s daughters, so they get to experience all the joys of having a dog but without any allergies." She sent a letter to the US embassy in Lima (capital of Peru), asking if Mr. Obama would like to adopt ‘Ears’, the four-month-old toothless Peruvian Hairless pup, to be his First Dog.

Obama said, "Our preference is to get a shelter dog, though this might be a challenge, given that a lot of shelter dogs are mutts like me."

Forget about the world crisis, forget about the troops in Iraq; we dog lovers are waiting anxiously to know what dog is Obama getting for his daughters Melia and Sasha?
